Investigating Strike‐Slip Faulting Parallel to the Icelandic Plate Boundary Using Boundary Element Models

چکیده

Abstract Most faults in Iceland strike roughly parallel to the divergent plate boundary, a part of North American‐Eurasian which would be expected lead primarily normal faulting. However, several studies have observed significant component rift‐parallel strike‐slip faulting Iceland. To investigate these fault kinematics, we use boundary element method model slip and crustal stress patterns Icelandic tectonic system, including spherical hotspot uniaxial that represents rifting. On network faults, estimate required relieve traction imposed by inflation remote rifting compare results with seismicity, geodetic data. We note good fit between model‐predicted deformation metrics, both indicating components consistency recent data longer‐term records geologic slip. Possible permutations steeply plunging σ 1 2 axes are common our models, suggesting localized perturbations may impact Some increases complexity, older configurations allowing opening simulate dike intrusion, show improvement select regions. This work provides new insight into physical mechanisms driving styles within away from current active implying portion is likely caused combined effects rifting, impacts, mechanical interactions across network.

Degenerate scale for the analysis of circular thin plate using the boundary integral equation method and boundary element methods

In this paper, the degenerate scale for plate problem is studied. For the continuous model, we use the null-field integral equation, Fourier series and the series expansion in terms of degenerate kernel for fundamental solutions to examine the solvability of BIEM for circular thin plates. Any two of the four boundary integral equations in the plate formulation may be chosen. For the discrete mo...

The scs9 Boundary Element: Characterization of Boundary Element-Associated Factors

Boundary elements are thought to define the peripheries of chromatin domains and to restrict enhancerpromoter interactions to their target genes within their domains. We previously characterized a cDNA encoding the BEAF-32A protein (32A), which binds with high affinity to the scs* boundary element from the Drosophila melanogaster 87A7 hsp70 locus. Here, we report a second protein, BEAF-32B, tha...

BOUNDARY ELEMENT METHOD APPLIED TO THE LIFTING BODIES NEAR THE FREE SURFACE

In this study, the boundary element method is formulated to evaluate hydrodynamic characteristics of bodies including free surface effect. The method is based on two equations, the perturbation potential boundary integral and the pressure Kutta condition, which are solved simultaneously. The method uses isoparametric elements for both quantity and geometric on the boundary. The method is first ...
